Fire in Meenakshi Amman temple

Huge fire broke out at the shops inside Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple on February 2 at around 11.20 PM. Reports says fire broke out at a shop near the temple’s entrance. This spread across the other shops and these shops were damaged.  It is also said that there were fire accident in shops present near 1000 pillar mandapam (Aayiram Kaal Mandapam) also.

A senior fire service official has reported that with the help of five fire tenders they were able to extinguish the fire and it was stopped from further spreading. Luckily there was no life injury or any damage to the temple. The old wooden door of the temple was also saved by preventive action. Around 10 shops were damaged due to this fire accident.

Madurai District Collector Veera Raghava Rao has informed that the fire broke out due due to the electric short circuit. He has also confirmed that there was no harm to any of the people.
